Day 1 – Rivertrees Country Inn, Arusha.

Tanzania Family Safaris on arrival into Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met and transferred to Rivertrees Country Inn where you stay for one night (including meals).

Rivertrees Country Inn is located between Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in natural gardens along the Usa River. Combining old world ambiance, African country elegance, excellent farm cuisine, personal service and genuine warmth from your hosts – Rivertrees is simply a magical place to stay on the first night of your family safari vacation in Africa.

Rivertrees accommodated up to 24 guests, guaranteeing privacy, personal attention and service. The eight self contained guestrooms are located in the main farmhouse or within the spacious gardens. The two ‘River Cottages’ offer private decks and wood burning fire places. Emphasis is on providing comfortable accommodation, with each room individually styled and uniquely furnished with its own character. Rivertrees offers excellent country cuisine, using fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables grown in the Rivertrees gardens. The aroma of freshly baked bread, herbs and spices wafting in from the kitchens is irresistible. The surroundings areas abound with birdlife, making it a haven for ornithological enthusiasts. Beyond the gardens, grass lined pathways lead to the Usa River that flows through the property. Shaded by beautiful old trees, the river is a study of peace and calm. The pool is located near the river and surrounded by sights and sounds of nature.

Days 2 and 3 – Maramboi Tented Camp, Manyara.

Tanzania Family Safaris in the morning you will be met by your private guide and safari vehicle which is typically how we design a luxury safari in Tanzania. You will set off for the Tarangire National Park for game drives with a picnic lunch. In the afternoon you will arrive at your first safari camp, Maramboi Tented camp where you stay for two nights (including meals, game drives and park fees).

Maramboi Tented Camp is located on the shore of Lake Manyara in the Rift Valley along an ancient migratory corridor between Manyara and Tarangire National Park. This is a fabulous wildlife location and during a visit to Maramboi guests are able to enjoy the endless vistas of rolling grassland between two of East Africa’s most game rich areas.

The accommodation consists of twenty classic safari tents built on raised platforms under large thatched canopies overlooking the open plains. All of the tents have large comfortable beds with mosquito nets, en-suite bathroom with showers and private verandas built on raised viewing decks overlooking Lake Manyara. The main area of camp has a restaurant where wonderful meals are served either indoors or on the decking outside. Private dining on your own veranda under the stars is a perfectly romantic way to end a day on safari and picnic lunches for the following day can also be easily arranged. The camp also has a refreshing swimming pool where the family can relax between safari activities. Tarangire is part of an ecosystem of about 15,000 square miles which supports a large population of elephants, zebra and wildebeest. Photography along the Tarangire river presents endless opportunities for great pictures of families of elephants coming down to drink, with youngsters often playing and cavorting in the cooling stream under the watchful eye of their mothers.

Day 4 – Ngorongoro Farm House, Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Tanzania Family Safaris today your family will game drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for game viewing with picnic lunch. In the late afternoon you will continue to Karatu where you stay for one night at Ngorongoro Farm House (including meals, game drives and park fees).

Surrounded by lush tropical flowers and trees, Ngorongoro Farm House is a brick and stone house set among its own ten acre vegetable garden and overlooking a coffee plantation. The forest of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area starts immediately behind the lodge and terraced gardens provide panoramic views towards the Great Rift Escarpment. Africa holidays are often depicted in the Great Rift Valley and this is your chance to see it.

Comfortable accommodation is provided in fifteen attractive cottages. The atmosphere is friendly and informal and breakfast and lunch are buffet style, while candlelit dinners create a relaxed mood in the dining room. Each meal is prepared with fresh ingredients from the working farm. There are two lounges in which guests can relax over a drink. Whilst here your family can spend the day enjoying the prolific bird life, stroll among the extensive gardens or take a walk up through the forest to the waterfall and elephant caves. On your return you may spot bushbuck, baboon, elephant or even leopard.

Ngorongoro Farm House is conveniently located for easy access to the nearby Ngorongoro Crater, a location which is understandably regarded as the eight Natural Wonder of the World and quite rightly so. This unique World Heritage Site is the largest intact caldera in the world and with its walls standing proudly at over 2,000 feet it is estimated that its original height would have overshadowed Mount Kilimanjaro. The floor of the crater covers an area in excess of 100 square miles and provides a sheltered haven for nearly 25,000 animals including all of the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion and leopard).

Aside from wildebeest and zebra which migrate away from the crater during the wet season, all of the resident wildlife is more than happy to stay put throughout the year. One of the only animals notably absent from the Ngorongoro Crater is the giraffe which apparently find the walls too steep to negotiate.

Days 5 to 7 – Kubu kubu Camp, Serengeti.

Tanzania Family Safaris in the morning you will be transferred to the Manyara airstrip where you board the scheduled flight to the Serengeti. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Kubu kubu Tented Lodge where you stay for three nights (including meals, game drives and park fees).

It has a modern African appearance, creating a fresh, sleek, yet comfortable ambiance. In the central restaurant guests can enjoy exceptional food and wines, and the cozy lounge area has been creatively designed to give an atmosphere of intimacy and exclusivity. Kubu Kubu Tented Camp is perfectly positioned to be within easy reach of different parts of the park and an array of areas of interest and diverse habitats and wildlife, including the famous Maasai Kopjes, Olduvai Gorge Museum, the southern plains, the Seronera valley and the Grumeti River.
There are several airstrips in the National Park that receive schedule flights from Arusha as well as charter flights. The tar road from Arusha is good and takes approximately 4-5 hours.

With a little extra of everything and a private bath outdoor in the wild, the suites offer the most exclusive way of safari living imaginable. Nature and luxury in perfect harmony through design and comfort with two en-suite bedrooms, a lounge veranda and all the luxury items you may wish for, the suites are the perfect accommodation for the more exclusive safari traveller. The luxurious safari-style tents, each with en-suite bathroom all have spectacular views and private veranda with its cooling thatched roof provides a tranquil oasis and works as an extension of your bedroom.

Breakfast, light lunch and dinner are served in the restaurant. Enjoy the finest cuisine with the Serengeti as a vista. The dedicated Chef and his team are proud to serve you a fusion of local influences and Continental Cuisine. Most of the themed menus of the day are being prepared in a live setting.

After a day out on safari the family can relax and revive with a dip in the swimming pool which is made out of local rocks and is situated on the edge of the hill.

With magnificent views of the Serengeti, the pool offers the ideal opportunity to cool off after a hot and dusty game drive. Complimentary lemonade and fruit kebabs are served by the pool side.

Massages and plunge pool are available in a private and tranquil setting. The bar, situated in the centre of the main building is a natural meeting point and the heart of the lodge. Sit back and relax in the cosy corner on the second floor in the main building.
